Mallet Putter Covers

Half the putters sold today are mallets, and most of the cover market still treats them as an afterthought — a stretched blade pattern that half-fits, gapes at the back and falls off forward. A mallet cover is its own pattern or it is the wrong cover.

The mallet shape is deep front-to-back where a blade is long heel-to-toe, so the cover closes over the back of the head instead of sliding along it. Ours are patterned to the shape family — mid-mallet and full mallet — with the closure at the back where the head actually enters.

The retention rule holds here with interest: a mallet cover carries more material further from the shaft, so a lazy closure lets it rock and walk off. Deep throat or a proper wrap closure, named on the quote, same as everything we make.

The flat top of a mallet cover is also the best branding surface of any putter cover — a broad panel that reads from directly above, which is how a putter is actually looked at.

Why does the shape matter so much?
Because the cover closes where the head enters. A blade slides into a sleeve heel-first; a mallet goes in face-first and the cover closes over the deep back of the head. Get that backwards and the cover either will not seat or will not stay — which, as with everything in this category, is how it gets lost.
